Couple of oak armchairs – Louis XIV – South West

Couple of oak armchairs – Louis XIV – South West

These Louis XIV armchairs with large, slightly inclined flat backrests, have the delicacy of displaying two different sizes to personalize each other’s seat within the couple. The large armchair of Monsieur, willingly more austere because of its Louis XIV structure enhanced by large armrests in the shape of brackets, in contrast highlights that of Madame, related to the Regency style, enriched with a notoriously feminine curve of armrests and slender already announcing the Louis XV style.
The tapestries with the motif of flowery cups were restored at the end of the 19ᵗʰ century, while taking care to recreate a canvas-type embroidery specific to the original Louis XIV style.
