Shrunken two bodies sideboard in walnut - Louis XIII - Périgord

Although faithful to the Louis XIII style which it expresses with authenticity, this sideboard from Périgord is narrowed, decorated and fitted out in a unique way. It bears the traces of the daring and ingenuity of the 18ᵗʰ century furniture carpenter who imagined and shaped it.

  • The withdrawal of the upper body compared to the lower one, its narrowed character therefore, is frankly assumed.
  • The truncated diamond point ornamentation inherent in the facade is also present on the sides.
  • Two unusual small drawers fit in the center.
  • Finally, a dentil motif supports the cornice, a sign of a meticulous finish honoring the order of a castle or that of a noble house.
The exaggerated withdrawal of the upper body compared to the lower one softens the rectilinear character of the Louis XIII style.
